Academic Support Services
Your success is our success
Jefferson faculty and staff pride ourselves on the success of our students and we do all we can to help you achieve your academic goals. You have chosen to earn a college degree and we want to make sure you have the right tools to help you.
The right classes
Jefferson uses College Placement Testing (CPT) to get you in classes that are the right level for you in English and math. Once you are accepted to the College, we will let you know if you need to test. It's free and easy to schedule placement testing.
We also offer credit by exam if you want to pay to take a test to receive college credit for what you have already learned through on-the-job training, professional development, military service, prior course work, cultural pursuits, internships, etc... Many students do this so they can take fewer classes towards their degree.
New Student Services
You’ve been accepted, you have completed your financial aid and applied for scholarships, maybe even decided to live on campus, but now it’s time to get all the info about actually coming to Jefferson and college in general. You are ready for Cannoneer Kickoff, your new student orientation!
Great advisement
Taking the right classes for your major and transfer goals is crucial. You will first be advised as a new student and then assigned a faculty advisor once you have declared your degree program.
Get on a career path
Jefferson's career planning and job placement services rank #1 among SUNY community colleges. Learn what we can do to help you get started on a degree that matches your career interests and then we can help you find a job once you graduate.
Military and veteran support
With our close proximity to Fort Drum, soldiers, family members and veterans are a big part of our student body. We offer lots of support specific to our military and veteran students.
Academic help along the way
We know classes can be difficult, but help is here for you. We have a robust College library and academic advisors to help you during your journey. We care and we want you to succeed.
Your health and well-being
Coming to class is the best way to be successful, but we know you have family, work and other commitments. Sometimes juggling classes and life can be stressful. Jefferson's Health and Wellness Center offers you lots of FREE services to help your physical and mental health, like individual and group personal counseling, a College nurse, physician assistant, flu shot clinics, food pantry and more.
Accommodative and accessibility services
Jefferson provides access to reasonable accommodations for qualified students with a disability through individualized services, specialized equipment, and a supportive environment. If you are in need of assistance and some support please talk to us. Your records are kept confidential.
