Proctored Exams
Some of our online and hybrid classes require proctored exams. A proctor is a person who supervises an exam to make sure the exam is secure and the right person is taking it. Ask your instructor about online proctoring using Respondus®. If your class requires a proctor, you should review your instructor’s requirements and the official proctor guidelines.
Are you Ready?
Like all college classes, online classes require skills such as time management, reading comprehension and the ability to work independently. There are many ways to test your skills to see if you are ready for an online course.
- Online Help, Surveys and Tips. There are a lot of surveys that check whether you have the skills to succeed in an online course. Remember, these skills will help in all of your classes, work and in life!
- Brightspace Orientation. We offer a free orientation to online classes where you can see what an online class
looks like, test uploading assignments, taking a quiz, and adding to a discussion.
- Brightspace Orientation is available for you to see what an online course looks like and practice some of the functions you will be asked to perform in your courses. NOTE: You will have to login to Brightspace to access this orientation.
- Check your technology. Online classes require access to a computer with Internet. Check out the computer minimum requirements and test your computer with the Open SUNY Computer Checker.
Hybrid Classes
JCC also offers a number of convenient hybrid classes. These courses combine classroom instruction with online learning so you still connect in person with your professor and classmates while enjoying the convenience of online classes.
Hybrid classes have many of the same functions as fully online classes, so you need many of the same skills to succeed.
